Every Wednesday from June 19–November 27, The New York Botanical Garden’s Greenmarket provides affordable, locally grown produce along with fresh and nutritious baked goods and other specialty items. And, the market accepts EBT cards, FMNP, and WIC in addition to cash and debit or credit cards.
Talk to the farmers to learn more about the nutritional and health benefits of gardening and eating locally. Learn how to use produce from the market to make easy, nutritional meals at weekly cooking demonstrations and find out about composting, recycling, growing vegetables, and more at special demonstrations throughout the season. Hear “what’s fresh” at the market each week by calling 718.362.9561 and pressing 406# to find out what you can incorporate into your meals. For weekly recipes, produce updates and information about weekly special events, read the Garden’s blog, Plant Talk. Admission and parking are free for shoppers of the Greenmarket.

Wave Hill House reopens to visitors this festive weekend, after a two-year renovation of this historic mansion. Built as a country home, Wave Hill House has a distinguished history that aligns closely with the garden’s mission of helping people connect with the world of nature. Join us in celebrating the occasion with free activities for all ages, all weekend. Enjoy house tours, plein-air wellness, music, a collaborative quilting project and an especially welcoming Family Art Project as it returns to Wave Hill House’s Kerlin Learning Center.

NYC Summer Quest
NYC Summer Quest is a free, five-week, full day summer learning program that provides elementary and middle school students with fun, hands-on enrichment experiences while strengthening their academic skills. DOE teachers and educators from community-based organizations collaborate to offer students Common-Core aligned instruction, enrichment activities, sports and recreation, and field trips. Last summer, 90% of parents surveyed reported that NYC Summer Quest was a good balance of fun and learning, and 90% of parents would recommend the NYC Summer Quest program to other parents.
For Summer 2013, the program will be offered in 11 schools in Community School Districts 7, 9, and 12 in the South Bronx. The following Bronx schools and community-based partners have been selected to offer the program:

- PS 153 Jonathan D. Hyatt/YMCA of Greater New York – Bronx
- PS 179/BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life)

- CS 211/Children’s Aid Society
- CS 300 School of Science and Applied Learning/Good Shepherd Services
- JHS 162 Lola Rodriguez de Tio/Oasis Children’s Services
- South Bronx Academy for Applied Media/Partnership with Children
- Urban Assembly School for Applied Math and Science/Wingspan Arts
- IS 313 School of Leadership Development/Oasis Children’s Services
All elementary and middle school students attending public school in Districts 7, 9, and 12 are eligible to sign up through July 11, 2013. Capacity is limited. Priority enrollment is offered to students who attend the schools listed above.

CityParks PuppetMobile Presents Little Red’s Hood

Little Red’s Hood is a fresh retelling of the classic “Little Red Riding Hood” tale updated with a modern sensibility that will appeal to kids. The production features a dozen, hand-made marionettes crafted by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre. Also showing July 17th at Mount Hope Playground and July 22nd at Haffen Park.
